Pickford sets new England record
England played Wales at Wembley on Thursday night in a friendly match before their World Cup qualifier against Latvia. The Three Lions played Wales off the park in the first twenty minutes as they went 3-0 up thanks to Rogers, Watkins, and Saka. The away side didn’t manage to muster many goalscoring opportunities, meaning another clean sheet for Jordan Pickford.
Pickford has not conceded a goal for England since the 10th of October 2024, over a year ago now. The Everton goalkeeper has also kept a clean sheet in every game he has played for England under Tuchel, as well as becoming the first England goalkeeper to keep eight clean sheets in a row. Hopefully he continues his record in the months to come, with one eye firmly on the World Cup.
Inter Milan target new goalkeeper
Inter Milan’s current goalkeeper, Yann Sommer, has been fantastic for the Italian giants since joining the club in 2023 but at 36 years old, Inter are looking to replace the Swiss international for the future. Their number one target at this moment in time is reported to be Freiburg goalkeeper Noah Atubolu, who is known for being a penalty specialist. Freiburg will be reluctant to let the 23-year-old - who has already made over 60 appearances for Freiburg - go, but if he does, Inter may have their goalkeeper sorted for years to come.
Neuer expected to receive new Bayern contract
At the age of 39, Manuel Neuer, shows no signs of slowing down and has already started the Bundesliga season with three clean sheets in six matches. The German giants are rumoured to be considering offering Neuer a new contract during December, according to Sky Sports, to avoid pre-contract agreements with other clubs before the January transfer window. If the German signs a one-year extension at the club, that will make his illustrious Bayern career 16 years long. A true legend of the club and the game may be extending his stay between the sticks.
Celtic eye new goalkeeper
With Kasper Schmeichel’s contract issue up in the air, Celtic are reportedly targeting a new goalkeeper, according to the BBC. Their reported target is Angus Gunn who is yet to play a game at his new club, Nottingham Forest. Angus Gunn is currently third choice in the goalkeeping pecking order at Forest and is reportedly very frustrated by his lack of games, considering the club are in four competitions this year. At this moment in time, it looks like Schmeichel won’t be getting a new contract and if that is the case, do you think Gunn would be a good fit?
Schmeichel's goalposts too big?
Sticking with the Danish international, Kasper Schmeichel was also involved in a bizarre occurrence before the Danes thrashed Belarus 6-0 in their World Cup qualifier on Thursday night.
The veteran Celtic goalkeeper ordered UEFA officials to measure the height of one of the goalposts at the ZTE Arena in Zalaegerszeg after he felt they appeared too big in the warm-ups. He was proved to be correct and the height of the goalposts - about five centimetres too big - was reduced.
Schmeichel explained: “As goalkeepers, you work in millimetres and centimetres. And when you've been underneath goals for as many years as I have, you know where things need to be.”
League One goalkeeper plays match in warm-up t-shirt
In Port Vale's game away at Wimbledon on Saturday afternoon, Ben Amos was ordered by the referee to wear his black and pink warm up shirt rather than the away side's blue goalkeeper shirt, citing too much of a clash with Wimbledon's home kit.
The game ended 1-1 with Amos making several good saves.
