Pope silences critics in the Champions League

Nick Pope has been criticised for his distribution abilities when his side, Newcastle United, are either under pressure at the back or need to get high up the pitch as soon as possible. But his shot stopping has been far from an issue this season, and he already has five Premier League clean sheets in the opening nine games. With Aaron Ramsdale waiting in the wings, a big statement on the distribution front was needed.

The Toon made a strong start against Jose Mourinho’s Benfica side as they were 1-0 up after 32 minutes but it felt like an extra goal was needed for breathing space. As the clock struck 70 minutes, Nick Pope had the ball in his grateful grasp and launched the ball like a light shot put as it flew approximately three quarters of the pitch before falling to Harvey Barnes who didn’t waste his goalkeeper’s hard throwing work.

Players such as Malick Thiaw and Sven Botman were seen running over to Nick Pope in celebration as his contribution helped Newcastle win their second European game in a row.

Lammens continues to impress for the Red Devils

Senne Lammens made his Manchester United debut against Sunderland in a 2-0 win. He then played at Anfield where his side won for the first time in a decade. This weekend, it was time to maintain his 100% record as a Manchester United goalkeeper with Brighton next on the fixture list, Manchester United had lost six out of their last seven Premier League games against Brighton, so a win against the Seagulls wasn’t going to be easy.

However, the curse was broken as United won 4-2 at the Theatre of Dreams. Despite conceding two, Lammens still impressed with the way his confidence spills on to his defenders - a somewhat unfamiliar feeling for the Man United backline. The run continues.

Khiara Keating makes England debut

With regular Lionesses' number one Hannah Hampton unavailable due to a minor elbow injury, Manchester City goalkeeper Khiara Keating last week made her international debut against Brazil. Unfortunately for the 21-year-old, her side lost 2-1 to the South Americans due to two early goals. Despite the result, it was an undeniably proud moment for the new Lioness.

Chelsea to sign Barcelona goalkeeper?

After Chelsea’s shock 2-1 defeat to Sunderland on Saturday, Enzo Maresca's team has been criticised for lacking experience. After the game, it has been reported that Spanish giants, Barcelona, have offered the services of Marc-Andre Ter Stegen to Chelsea for the second half of the Premier League season once the January transfer window commences. Fans have reacted this information with open arms, with Ter Stegen  having proven himself at the highest level for years now. Will Chelsea sign the German in January?
