Robert Sanchez sent off in Chelsea's first loss of the season

On Saturday, Chelsea number one Robert Sanchez received a red card after just five minutes against Manchester United when his tackle on the edge of the penalty area wiped Bryan Mbuemo off his feet. The referee unsurprisingly responded with the sending off and the decision has been met with no disagreement on socials after the game.

As a result, Manager Enzo Maresca had to make three early changes to his team, one of which saw Cole Palmer come off the field of play. The game ended with Manchester United taking all three points, despite being level numerically just before half-time after a Casemiro red card. The question of whether Sanchez should be replaced at the club has crept up again, despite his brilliant run of games and recent, invaluable contributions before yesterday.

A very different week for goalkeepers in the Premier League

The weekend of the 13th - 15th September saw an incredible number of clean sheets in the Premier League for goalkeepers, as only two games saw both teams score and there were two 0-0  draws (incredibly close to being four if it weren't for late, late drama by Fulham and Liverpool). However, this week it couldn’t have been more contrasting as every single game on Saturday saw both team’s score. At the time of writing, Sunderland are currently drawing 0-0 with Aston Villa and Bournemouth 0-0 with Newcastle, which could redeem this week's goal-fest record for those between the sticks.

Onana gets assist and continues to impress in Turkey

As reported last week, Andre Onana’s transfer saga finally came to an end as he made a loan move to Trabzonspor. In his first game, against Fenerbahçe, he showed his qualities, as he made eight saves, with only nine outfield players protecting him for most the game.

This weekend, the Cameroon international faced Gaziantep, in front of his new fans. Trabzonspor were losing with twenty minutes to go but their new number one came to the rescue as he launched a punt up to the gigantic Onuachu, who wrestled for the ball and tapped it into an empty net past the opponent’s goalkeeper. A fantastic start to life in Turkey for Onana!

Guillermo Ochoa joins his 11th club!

Mexican goalkeeper Guillermo Ochoa, famously known for being phenomenal at World Cups every time he participates in one, has just joint Cypriot side, AEL Limassol. This is the Mexican’s 11th club in his illustrious, 22 year-long career and he is showing no signs of slowing up and retiring any time soon. Will the 2026 World Cup be at the forefront of his mind? At this rate, possibly!

Championship club bolster goalkeeping ranks with experienced signing

Queens Park Rangers have added Ben Hamer to their goalkeeper department on a short term deal, the club announced on Friday. Hamer, 37, has enjoyed a longevous career across the EFL, playing more than 350 games for the likes of Brentford, Charlton Athletic, Leicester City, and Watford during this time.

The maturity that Hamer brings to the group is evident, as he explained how 'every player wants to play and I'm no different in that sense but my attitude doesn't change whether I'm playing or not.

'I had a similar situation at Watford with Daniel Bachmann. He was an Austrian international and doing really well before being sent off for a game. I came in and ended up keeping the shirt for 20-odd games. I supported him the whole way and he reciprocated that for me.

'You need to support each other. The team always comes first for me. Regardless of whether I'm playing or not, you have to have the same attitude.'
